Leading the way in sustainable timber in africa

Founded in 1923, Rougier is now the leading name in certified African tropical timber. We manage approximately 1.5 million hectares of forest in Gabon and the Republic of the Congo which are certified by independent international bodies with a global reputation (FSC® in Gabon and LegalSource™ in the Republic of the Congo).

The principle of sustainable forest management underpins everything we do from harvesting carried out by our subsidiaries Rougier Gabon and Rougier Congo (Mokabi SA), to local industrial processing in both Gabon and the Republic of the Congo. Of course, we also sell our products abroad through Rougier Afrique International (RAI).

In Gabon, our subsidiary produces logs, lumber and secondary wood products. As a result, Rougier Gabon makes a significant contribution to supplying local industry, specifically factories for the production of primary, secondary and tertiary processed wood products located in the Nkok Special Investment Zone (ZIS) which was established in 2010 to the north of the capital, Libreville. This zone contains 80% of the country’s wood processing plants.

In the Republic of the Congo, Rougier has been based in the northern part of the country, on the border with the Central African Republic since the beginning of the 2000s in the shape of its subsidiary Rougier Congo (Mokabi SA). This company sustainably manages a concession covering 586,000 hectares of forest. Its annual output is around 100,000 m³ of logs and 40,000 m³ of lumber.

Lastly, Rougier Afrique International sells the full range of Rougier products (logs, lumber, plywood, glued-laminated timber and finger-jointed solid blocks), helping raise the profile of Gabonese and Congolese wood on the global marketplace.
